These days with all the events happening all around the world is quiet disturbing especially with the Ahmand Arbery case; I mean, are we going back in times or something? Black people are getting killed while driving a car, taking a jog, asking for directions or even ordering food. When is enough going to be enough?
Who was Ahmand Arbery?
Ahmand Arbery was a 25-year-old, Black man from Brunswick, Georgia, a former star high-school linebacker who graduated from Brunswick High School in 2012. He also attended South Georgia Technical College to pursue a career as an electrician who liked to stay in shape and was an avid jogger, according to his family.
On February 23, 2020, Ahmand Marquez Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old African American man, was fatally shot near Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia while jogging on Holmes Road just before the intersection with Satilla Drive in the Satilla Shores neighborhood. Ahmand had been pursued and confronted by two white residents, who happens to be father and son, Travis and Gregory McMichael, who were armed and driving a pickup truck. The incident was recorded on video by a third resident, William Bryan, who was following Arbery in a second vehicle.
George claimed Ahmand resembled a suspect who had committed burglaries in the area but had no evidence of any wrongdoing by Ahmand except the color of his skin. After the video, going viral; it seems like a clear-cut case of deadly racial profiling and a hate crime even though it, took seventy-four days before the Georgia Bureau Investigation decided to take the suspects into custody which speaks volumes to us Black people in America.
That video, haunts me to this very day because those suspects hunted Ahmand Arbery down like he was an animal; the video is so vivid that you feel the hunger for murder; that young man struggled for his life. Say his name – Ahmand Arbery.
